Information about services and supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
A core focus area of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement is to ensure children and young people grow up safely in their families and communities. We will achieve this outcome by focusing on:
- taking every opportunity to maintain children and young people with family
- delivering quality services that support the positive development, health and wellbeing of children and young people
- every child and young person having access to quality early childhood services to support learning
- fostering connection to a safe and strong community
In the ACT there are a number of services and supports available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Young People Commissioner
- Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation
- Child and Family Centres in Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and West Belconnen
- Family group conferencing brings families together in a culturally safe way to talk about how best to take care of kids
